The Palestinian foreign minister has attacked the Biden administration as weak and uninterested in the Mideast conflict. Violence between Israel and the Palestinians has surged to its highest levels in nearly two decades. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki told foreign reporters in Ramallah on Thursday that he was “disappointed.” U.S. President Joe Biden had initially won plaudits from the Palestinians when he rejected the Trump administration’s unabashedly pro-Israel stance. But Malki says Biden has done little to follow up on those promises. The Palestinian Authority is confronting what analysts say could be its greatest threat to its existence.

Morocco has beaten Colombia 1-0 to make it to the Women’s World Cup knockout round – and to make even more history. Morocco is the first Arab or North African nation to go this far at the Women’s World Cup. It is the only one of eight tournament newcomers to advance, Morocco’s winning goal came in first-half stoppage time, when Anissa Lahmari put back a penalty-save rebound.

Germany has failed to reach the knockout stage for the first time at the Women’s World Cup after being held to a 1-1 draw against South Korea. Morocco’s win over Colombia meant Germany needed a win to advance. Germany pushed forward in search of the winning goal. Led by the head of captain Alexandra Popp, the Germans created numerous scoring opportunities but could not find the winner. Colombia topped Group H and Morocco took second place with six points. Germany finished with four.

An Indian official says New Delhi will participate in a weekend meeting that Saudi Arabia is hosting to find a way to start negotiations to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. A spokesman for India's External Affairs Ministry said Thursday that Saudi Arabia invited India to the two-day meeting in Jeddah and its “participation is in consonance with our long-standing position that dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward." The spokesman didn't reveal who would represent the country at the summit. The head of Ukraine’s presidential office confirmed Sunday that a Ukrainian-organized peace summit would take place in Saudi Arabia.

A Florida man sentenced to death for the 1988 attack on a woman who was sexually assaulted and killed with a hammer, then set on fire in her own bed, is set for execution Thursday after dropping all his appeals and saying he was ready to die. James Phillip Barnes was also convicted of killing his wife in 1997. The execution by lethal injection set for 6 p.m. at Florida State Prison in Starke would be the fifth this year in Florida. The 61-year-old Barnes was serving a life sentence for his wife's slaying when he wrote letters in 2005 to a prosecutor claiming responsibility for the killing years earlier of Patricia “Patsy” Miller, a nurse who lived in a condominium in Melbourne, along Florida’s east coast.

A Russian court has imposed a 400,000-ruble ($4,400) fine against Apple for failing to remove material deemed to be “false information” about Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. Russian news agency Interfax reported on Thursday that a justice of the peace in a magistrate’s court found Apple guilty of failing to delete podcasts and apps that spread false information about the conflict. Magistrate's courts handle administrative violations and low-level criminal cases. Since sending troops into Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has enacted an array of measures to punish any criticism or questioning of the military campaign.

Polish and Lithuanian leaders have held an urgent meeting in a strategically sensitive area where their NATO nations border Belarus and the Russian territory of Kaliningrad. The leaders warned that they are bracing for provocations from Moscow and Minsk in the area. The meeting Thursday came two days after two Belarusian helicopters briefly penetrated Polish airspace, in what was viewed as a provocative move. Both nations on NATO’s eastern flank also are on high alert following the arrival of thousands of Russia-linked Wagner group mercenaries just across their borders in Belarus after an aborted mutiny in Russia in June.

Anheuser-Busch InBev has reported a drop in U.S. revenue in the second quarter as Bud Light sales plunged amid a conservative backlash over a campaign with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. The world’s largest brewer said Thursday that revenue in the United States declined by 10.5% in the April-to-June period from a year earlier, “primarily due to the volume decline of Bud Light.” Conservative figures called for a boycott of Bud Light after it sent a commemorative can to Mulvaney. Her supporters criticized the beer brand for not doing enough to support her. Still, ABInBev said overall revenue rose 7.2% as global brands such as Stella Artois and Corona made up for the loss in Bud Light sales.

Greenpeace demonstrators have draped the country estate of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in black fabric to protest the expansion of oil drilling in the North Sea. Video posted by the group on Thursday shows a crew dressed in bright red jumpsuits climbing onto the roof of the Yorkshire house. Sunak wasn't there but vacationing in California. The North Yorkshire police force says officers are at the location. Activists held a banner that said: “Rishi Sunak — Oil Profits or Our Future?” Sunak announced this week that hundreds of new oil and gas licenses will be granted in a bid for energy independence in a move criticized by environmentalists.

The Philippine coast guard has rescued all 67 people from a ferry boat that struck a floating object and took on water off a northeastern province. It was the second ferry accident to hit the country in a week. Officials said a passenger on the Jovelle Express 3 managed to contact a coast guard station for help when the vessel was damaged Thursday after hitting an unspecified object off Polillo island in Quezon province. The 60 passengers and seven crew members were brought to Polillo. Last week, an overcrowded ferry boat flipped over in a lake southeast of Manila after being lashed by strong winds that sparked panic among many passengers. At least 27 drowned and more than 40 others were rescued.
