Pop Fender: Telescopic and recyclable fenders

The Austrian company Pop Fender presented its first product at the international equipment trade fair METS Trade 2022. It is a telescopic fender. Unlike traditional fenders, here there is no question of inflating and filling with air a classic plastic envelope, whether cylindrical or spherical. The Pop Fender is telescopic. It can thus be folded and deployed simply by pulling on it. It consists of 5 cone sections that slide into each other, with a ring at each end to attach the mooring line to the boat.

In deployed position, the Pop Fender, 165 mm in diameter, measures 620 mm high. On the other hand, once stored, if its diameter is constant, its height is limited to 250 mm. It will thus be easier to find a place in a trunk for storage while sailing, where the yachtsman does not have fun deflating his fender to put it away.

To develop its defense, Pop Fender chose to use a TPV type plastic, used in the automotive industry for the past 40 years for car gaskets. Beyond its mechanical characteristics, with a balance between shape retention and shock absorption, this mixture of rubber and thermoplastic matrix was chosen by Pop Fender for its recyclability characteristics.

The material is also resistant to the marine environment and the fender once disassembled can be easily washed in the dishwasher. Easily stained, the fender can be multi-colored, allowing the customer to choose different shades for the fender components. Pop Fender has 10 colors in stock.

Available online since September 2022, the Pop Fender is currently only available in 165mm diameter, but a new size is expected in summer 2023.
